The Lazy Tortoise Ranch Wildlife Refuge, a not-for-profit, is striving to create a thriving community of outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy meeting new people and embarking on unforgettable adventures that inspire kids and adults to become explorers, scientists, and mathematicians. For adults, we offer a range of opportunities that allow them to unwind in a hammock or engage as citizen scientists alongside marine scientists, botanists, geologists, wildlife biologists, and astronomers. We want to promote environmental awareness through kayaking our rivers and ocean, eco-science tourism, scuba diving, snorkeling, hiking, fishing, and hunting; mixed with live music, better food, and enthusiastic adventurists. We aim to promote inspiration, innovation, and discovery through recreational education.

Why not consider coming out to Boondock or Tent Camp for Free and help to build hiking trails, park pavilions, bat houses, and plant trees, milkweeds, and wildflowers.

Help to offset the fuel you burned coming here to camp

The average American puts around 14 to 15 tons of carbon each year into the atmosphere deepening the impacts of global warming. Purchasing 15 tons of carbon offset credits mitigates those impacts for one year.  The Lazy Tortoise Ranch Wildlife Refuge will plant 63,000 long-leaf pine with native grasses and wildflowers in the understory.  Mixed in these areas of planted pine are existing live oaks, southern magnolia, hickory, and red bay.  Each year that goes by the capacity of the wildlife refuge to store more and more carbon increases. These are high-quality carbon credits because the habitats will be protected with a conservation easement and an endowment fund will be created that pays for the maintenance of the habitats in perpetuity.  Contact us if you like to purchase carbon credits to offset the carbon footprint of your business or personal life.

The Lazy Tortoise Ranch Wildlife Refuge looks at humanity as part of nature, not the masters of nature.  The developers and scientists are blending a sustainable camping experience with the rhythms and balance of natural habitats life forms depend on. Come and enjoy our hiking trails, huge historic oak trees, and Spring Warrior Creek; help build bat houses and watch them fill up over the years, walk in our rock garden and geologic park, and enjoy the park pavilions built to help you relax during your walk in the woods.
